What is ALZeducate?

The Alzheimer Society understands that there are many challenges faced by people living with dementia, their care partners, health care providers and others who provide support on a daily basis.  Having the right knowledge and skills to live well with dementia or to support those living with dementia will lead to improved quality of life.  Even those who just want to know more about what dementia is and what they can do, will help to create more dementia-friendly communities.  

ALZeducate is dedicated to providing high-quality, best practice-based online education for all using adult learning principles that support real learning and change.

Beyond the Doorstep: Stories and Tips for Travelling With Dementia

In this on-demand course, real-life travel experiences from persons living with dementia and care partners will be shared, along with practical advice to help in the planning of travelling with dementia. Travelling has a different meaning for everyone and may include everything from getting to a day program, going on a road trip, or travelling outside of the country. No matter the distance, if travelling is going to be beyond the doorstep and includes dementia, deliberate planning will help to lessen any risks and increase the enjoyment for everyone.

Introduction to Dementia for Healthcare Providers

Providing excellent care and support to people living with dementia starts with a good understanding of dementia.  Support strategies build on this understanding to enhance communication and provide care that is respectful of the person.

This certificate course consists of five self-paced learning modules which provide you with the basics you need to provide good person-centred care to the people living with dementia you support. A final Application of Learning module will check your knowledge and give you opportunity to reflect on how to apply your learning from the course.

Almost 40% of people over the age of 65 experience some form of memory loss. When there is no underlying medical condition causing this memory loss, it is known as age-associated memory impairment.

Age-associated memory impairment is part of the natural process of aging. For most people, memory generally remains strong as they get older, and doesn't decline rapidly or substantively.
